With this in mind, we’re proactively recalling a limited number of our lifejackets so that we can remedy an issue raised by the mechanism supplier, Halkey-Roberts.
The good news is that the majority of our lifejackets are unaffected.
Which lifejackets are affected?
The inflators being recalled were installed in Hutchwilco Classic 170N Manual Lifejackets and Hutchwilco Super Comfort 170 Manual manufactured from June 2021 to May 2022.
In addition replacement inflation mechanisms for those originally impacted that were manufactured in April 2025. All other Hutchwilco lifejackets manufactured outside of this period are not impacted.
How do I check if my lifejacket has the Halkey-Roberts Inflator Mechanism?
Have a look at the part of the inflater that the Co2 cylinder screws into to find out if you have the recalled product. Recalled inflators on your Hutchwilco 170 Manual lifejacket fitted with a V96000 Halkey Roberts® mechanism are the affected product.

Why are the lifejackets being recalled?
The recall follows an advisory from American supplier, Halkey Roberts, of potential failure during testing of the green/red indicator. This is reported as an occasional issue only affecting some units. Whilst the firing pin mechanism still functions, the indicator on some units may give a false reading e.g. showing green when it should be red due to the cylinder not being screwed in correctly or having been pierced previously. As a result the lifejacket may not inflate as expected when it shows green.
Subsequently we have discovered that while the replacement mechanisms remain certified and operational, testing indicates that some cylinder and mechanism combinations may not inflate as quickly as intended.
The potentially affected lifejackets will still inflate; however, some units may not meet the inflation response time standards we expect and require.
While only a small number of affected lifejackets have demonstrated slower inflation performance, any compromise to safety standards is unacceptable to us. That is why we are removing all potentially affected products from the market.
